Here is a picture of the stroller frame before modification - all I had to do was cut out one of the center supports and remove some of the cross bars - it is still very sturdy without them. It is the perfect size for the boat and there is plenty of room underneath for various things we will need to bring. The park is only about 3 blocks and 4 avenues over but carrying a 25 lbs model in my arms, simply will not work.
Not a particularly pretty or elegant solution but it looks like it will work. It is a twins stroller frame (minus the car seats) with a foam mattress pad folded twice. If the weather is nice tomorrow we will give it a test - although the weather is not looking good.
